Wouldn’t Taste His Own Sweets: UP Worker Faces Food Safety Inspection
UP sweet shop worker refuses taste test during food safety raid.
A sweet shop worker in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur reportedly refused to taste sweets being sold at the establishment when food safety officials asked him to do so during a raid. The incident took place last week at Jai Bhawani Sweets after complaints were received about alleged adulteration and unhygienic conditions at the shop.
Officials reportedly asked the worker to taste the sweets during the inspection. A video from the incident shows an official handing a sweet to the shop worker, identified online as Anni Baba, and asking him to eat it. The worker, however, appeared reluctant and refused despite the official's repeated insistence.
The inspection was carried out following complaints that the shop was allegedly selling adulterated food. There were also reports concerning the use of a banned form of silver leaf, an edible foil-like covering commonly used on sweets. The action followed a report that a woman had fallen ill after consuming a sweet purchased from the shop.

On the instructions of the District Magistrate, officials collected and confiscated food samples from the establishment for examination. SDM Karanveer Singh told reporters that strict action would be taken if the investigation establishes that the shop owner was responsible for selling inferior-quality food. The samples are expected to form part of the investigation into the allegations.
The incident drew reactions on social media, with several users questioning the worker's refusal to taste the product and demanding action if food safety violations were established. The case comes amid increased food safety inspections ahead of the festival season. In another recent operation in Noida, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety Administration seized and destroyed around 300 kg of paneer from a dairy in Garhi Chaukhandi.
Food safety authorities in other states have also stepped up inspections of establishments serving food. In Maharashtra, the Food and Drug Administration has been inspecting restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries and establishments supplying food through online delivery platforms. Authorities have taken action in cases involving alleged violations, including issuing improvement notices and suspending licences.
