Woman Files Lawsuit Against McDonald’s Over Alleged Hot Fries Injury

A New York woman has filed a lawsuit against McDonald’s after claiming that she suffered serious burns in her mouth and tongue from fries that were served at an extremely high temperature. The complaint was filed by Catherine Luongo, who alleged that the incident occurred at a McDonald’s outlet near Bryant Park in Manhattan earlier this year.

According to the civil complaint filed on July 21, Luongo visited the restaurant in March and said the fries she received were “overheated” and unsafe to consume. She alleged that employees failed to provide a safe food order and did not provide sufficient warnings about the temperature of the fries before serving them.

The lawsuit claims that the fries caused injuries that could have long-term effects and that Luongo experienced significant physical pain after the incident. She also alleged that the experience caused emotional distress and required her to seek medical treatment, for which she had to bear expenses.

Luongo’s complaint argues that the restaurant should have prevented the sale of food items that were allegedly served at dangerous temperatures. The lawsuit seeks compensation for the injuries, medical costs and other damages, though the exact amount being requested was not disclosed.

The case comes after another high-profile incident involving McDonald’s food and burn injuries. In 2023, a Florida family was awarded $800,000 after a four-year-old girl suffered second-degree burns when a hot chicken nugget from a McDonald’s Happy Meal fell onto her thigh.

In that case, the family said the child was injured after receiving the meal at a drive-thru outlet, leading to a lengthy legal battle over the incident. The latest lawsuit has renewed public discussion around food safety, serving temperatures and the responsibility of restaurants to ensure products are safe for customers. McDonald’s has not issued a detailed public response to Luongo’s allegations.
