"Will Get Through This Together!" Omar Abdullah's Call To Citizens as Pak Targets 26 Locations

A few hours ago, Pakistan launched a second consecutive night of drone attacks targeting 26 locations across India, from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat, in a significant escalation of tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

The Indian defense ministry reported that the attacks, aimed at vital installations including airports and air bases, were successfully thwarted by robust counter-drone systems. The only reported injuries occurred in Ferozpur, Punjab, where an armed drone struck a civilian area, injuring members of a family who were promptly provided medical assistance.

The targeted locations spanned Baramulla, Srinagar, Awantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala, along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC).

Indian air defense units, employing systems like the S-400, Akash, and Barak 8, neutralized the threats, with visuals of red streaks and explosions lighting up the skies in Baramulla and Pathankot. Heavy cross-border shelling continued in Jammu and Samba districts, while blackouts were enforced across border states, including Gujarat’s Kutch district, to mitigate risks.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged residents to stay indoors, describing intermittent blasts and a city-wide blackout in Jammu. Mosque loudspeakers in Srinagar broadcasted safety instructions, and sirens echoed across the region.

The attacks followed India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7, a retaliatory strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

The defense ministry emphasized vigilance, assuring citizens that the situation was under control. Global calls for de-escalation, including from the U.S., underscored the gravity of the crisis.
