Wife's Desperate Pleas Ignored as BMW Driver Takes Victims to Clinic in GTB Nagar

In a heartbreaking revelation from the FIR in a fatal Delhi accident, the wife of a senior government official repeatedly begged the BMW-driving couple to rush her critically injured husband to a nearby hospital, only to be taken to a far-off facility in GTB Nagar. The incident, which claimed the life of Navjot Singh, a 52-year-old Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, has exposed shocking negligence amid a high-speed collision on the Ring Road near Delhi Cantonment Metro Station.
The accident unfolded around 1 PM on Sunday, as Navjot Singh and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, were returning home to Hari Nagar after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurdwara on their motorcycle. According to Sandeep's statement in the FIR, a blue BMW, driven by a woman with a male co-passenger, rammed into their bike at breakneck speed near Metro Pillar No. 67. "My husband fell on the road with severe injuries and multiple fractures to his head, mouth, and legs. I also suffered head and leg fractures and soon fell unconscious," she recounted. Despite wearing a helmet, Sandeep sustained serious head trauma, while her turban-clad husband was left in a dire state.
Sandeep, a school teacher, pleaded desperately for immediate aid at the closest hospital, but the BMW driver, identified as Gagan Preet Kaur, insisted on heading to a small clinic in GTB Nagar, approximately 22 km away. "I was constantly requesting them to take us to the nearest hospital as my husband was unconscious and needed urgent treatment," Sandeep told police. Mohammad Gulfam, a van driver who stopped to help, corroborated this in his account, stating that the BMW couple directed him to transport all four injured parties to Azadpur's hospital instead of seeking prompt local care.

The delay proved fatal. Navjot Singh was declared dead on arrival due to the extensive injuries and the time lost in transit. Sandeep, enduring excruciating pain, was allegedly made to wait in the hospital lobby while the BMW driver's husband, with minor injuries, received priority treatment. "Because of this negligence, my father died, and my mother screamed in agony," Singh's son told reporters, highlighting the hospital's role in the tragedy. The family later transferred Sandeep to Venkateshwara Hospital for advanced care, where she remains under treatment, grappling with profound grief.
The accused couple, Gurugram-based business owners specializing in leather products like saddles and belts, were also injured but less severely. The woman driver was taken into custody on Monday after her hospital discharge. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, seized the BMW and motorcycle, and conducted a forensic analysis of the scene. The investigation is ongoing, with Gulfam's formal statement pending.
This tragic episode has ignited public fury over road safety in Delhi, where speeding and hit-and-run incidents are rampant. The family's devastation underscores the human cost of such oversights, with the son expressing the family's shattered state: "My mother is devastated, and so are we."
