Wife and Lover Jailed 19 Years for Conspiring to Kill Army Veteran Husband
Michelle Mills and her lover were jailed after a staged break-in murder plot against her husband failed.
Michelle Mills, 46, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for conspiring with her lover to murder her husband, Christopher Mills, in a bid to continue their secret affair. The plot, which involved staging a fake home invasion, was uncovered after the failed attack on September 20, 2024, at the couple's caravan in Cenarth, Carmarthenshire. Mills and her lover, Geraint Berry, 47, were convicted of conspiracy to murder following a trial at Swansea Crown Court in October 2025.
Michelle Mills and Geraint Berry met while working at a veterans' homeless charity and began their affair in June 2024. Over the following months, they exchanged messages discussing various methods to kill Christopher Mills, including poisoning his food with antifreeze or smothering him with a pillow. Berry later recruited Steven Thomas, also 47, to assist in carrying out the plan.
On the night of the attack, Berry and Thomas, wearing gas masks and armed with imitation firearms, broke into the caravan posing as intruders. They intended to kill Christopher Mills and stage the scene to look like a suicide, carrying pliers, cable ties, and a forged suicide note. However, Christopher Mills, an army veteran, fought back fiercely, disarming the attackers despite being struck in the face.

After the failed assault, Michelle Mills called emergency services, claiming unknown armed intruders had injured her husband. Police investigations revealed deleted text messages between the lovers, including instructions to erase communications, as well as the forged note found in Berry's possession. These findings led to the arrests and subsequent convictions.
At sentencing, Judge Nicklin KC described the plan as demonstrating a clear intent to kill, despite its incompetence. Geraint Berry received a matching 19-year sentence for conspiracy to murder, while Steven Thomas was acquitted of conspiracy but served time for a firearms offence.
Christopher Mills, in his victim impact statement, spoke of the profound betrayal and lasting trauma caused by his wife's actions and the violent attack. He described feeling constantly anxious and struggling to trust others following the revelation of the affair and the calculated plot against his life.
