White House says Trump ended India-Pakistan conflict
White House Hails Trump as Global Peacemaker.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump was instrumental in resolving the military conflict between India and Pakistan. Speaking at a press briefing, Leavitt emphasized Trump’s use of American influence to secure global stability.
“The President leverages America’s strength to earn respect from allies and adversaries alike,” Leavitt stated, highlighting Trump’s role in ending seven global conflicts, including the India-Pakistan tensions. She claimed the resolution prevented a potential nuclear war, attributing the success to Trump’s belief in the power of the US presidency.
Leavitt further noted that Trump employed trade as a key tool to broker peace between the two nations. Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media a “full and immediate” ceasefire following US-mediated talks, he has claimed over 40 times to have de-escalated the India-Pakistan conflict.

However, India has consistently refuted these claims, asserting that the ceasefire was achieved through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated in Parliament that no foreign leader influenced India’s decision to halt Operation Sindoor.
Leavitt also addressed Trump’s imposition of a 50% tariff on India, including a 25% levy for its purchases of Russian oil, set to take effect on August 27. She linked these sanctions to efforts to pressure Russia into ending the Ukraine conflict, stating, “The President has applied significant pressure, including sanctions on India, to bring this war to a close.”
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently accused India of “profiteering” by reselling Russian oil, a charge that has strained bilateral ties. India has called the tariffs “unjustified and unreasonable,” vowing to take measures to protect its national interests and economic security.
The conflicting narratives underscore tensions in US-India relations, with New Delhi firmly denying any US mediation in its ceasefire with Pakistan while grappling with the economic impact of Trump’s tariffs.
