“We Are Bringing Venezuela Back,” Trump Announces Oil Deal
Trump announces major Venezuelan oil shipments to lower global prices.
US President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that the United States is actively "bringing Venezuela back" through close cooperation with Venezuelan authorities and a significant oil supply arrangement. Speaking at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump described the engagement as progressing "very well" and stated that millions of barrels of Venezuelan oil are already flowing into American refineries on a daily basis. He claimed the deal involves an initial volume of 50 million barrels valued at over $5 billion.
Trump asserted that the increased supply from Venezuela would help drive down global oil prices further, benefiting both the United States and international energy markets. He portrayed the arrangement as mutually advantageous, stating that it would be "great for Venezuela" and "great for our country." The President emphasised his administration's direct involvement in facilitating the shipments and expressed confidence in their positive economic impact.
The remarks followed a US military operation launched on January 3 that resulted in the capture of Venezuela's then-President Nicolas Maduro. Trump highlighted the success of this action, describing it as delivering "an incredible feeling" and underscoring that "winning is a good thing." He positioned the military intervention as a key factor enabling the current diplomatic and commercial engagement with Venezuelan officials.

On Sunday, Trump revealed that he had spoken with Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez, who requested approval to send 50 million barrels of oil to the United States. Trump confirmed his immediate agreement, noting the consignment's value at $4.2 billion and stating that the oil is already en route. He praised Rodriguez's cooperation and described her as having been "very good" in the negotiations.
Trump positioned himself as "Venezuela's biggest fan" and framed the developments as a reversal of the country's previous decline from prosperity to crisis. He expressed optimism that the oil deal and broader collaboration would contribute to stabilising Venezuela while advancing US energy interests and securing lower fuel costs domestically.
