Watch Out Humans! Humanoid Robots Are Very Close, Says Nvidia’s Jensen Huang
Humanoid Robots Nearing Reality, Says Nvidia’s Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has declared that humanoid robots are closer to widespread use than most realize, predicting their integration into everyday life within a few years. Speaking at Nvidia’s GTC 2025 conference in San Jose, California, Huang unveiled the Isaac GR00T N1, the world’s first open-source, customizable foundation model for humanoid robots, signaling a major leap in robotics development. “The age of generalist robotics is here,” he proclaimed, emphasizing that these machines could soon transform industries like manufacturing.
Huang’s optimism stems from advancements in AI and robotics, particularly Nvidia’s Project GR00T, first introduced in 2024. The GR00T N1 model, showcased with robots like 1X’s NEO Gamma performing tasks autonomously, leverages human movement data to train robots for real-world applications. Huang told reporters that humanoid robots could be “wandering around” in less than five years, with factories likely adopting them first due to their controlled environments and clear economic benefits—potentially costing $100,000 annually to rent, a fraction of long-term labor expenses.
Backed by Nvidia’s cutting-edge tools, including simulation frameworks and partnerships with firms like Boston Dynamics and Figure AI, Huang envisions a future where humanoid robots address labor shortages and boost productivity. With the global robotics market projected to hit $38 billion in the next two decades, his bold claim suggests a robotic revolution is not just imminent—it’s already underway.
