Venezuela Acting President Delcy Rodriguez To Meet PM Modi During India Visit
Venezuela leader to discuss energy and trade with India.
Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez is set to undertake a five-day official visit to India from June 3 to 7, during which she will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Indian leadership to strengthen cooperation across key sectors, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Rodríguez’s visit will cover the full spectrum of India–Venezuela relations, with discussions expected to focus on energy, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, science, and renewable energy. He noted that she will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers handling foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication, and transport.
The visit comes at a time when India is expanding its engagement with Venezuela’s energy sector, with crude oil imports from the South American nation recently seeing an uptick. According to officials, India views Venezuela as an important partner in energy security and is exploring avenues to deepen commercial and strategic ties through both state-owned and private sector participation in the oil and gas industry.

Rodríguez, who has previously visited India multiple times in different official capacities, is also expected to tour key sites during her stay. Officials said the engagement will include interactions with industry leaders and sectoral stakeholders in addition to the formal diplomatic discussions in New Delhi.
The upcoming talks follow a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Rodríguez earlier this year, during which both leaders agreed to expand cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, digital technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides had also emphasised strengthening ties within the broader framework of Global South cooperation.
The MEA said Rodríguez’s visit, originally scheduled earlier in connection with the International Big Cats Alliance summit that was later deferred, reflects sustained momentum in bilateral engagement. The discussions are expected to further define the roadmap for India–Venezuela relations, particularly in energy security and diversified trade partnerships.
