Vaishno Devi Yatra Gets High-Tech Shield! Katra Command Centre to Launch in May

Fortifying Faith: AI-Powered Security Hub to Safeguard Pilgrims

In a major boost to pilgrim safety, a state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) is set to become operational in Katra, Reasi district, by the first week of May, ensuring a secure pilgrimage to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.

The announcement came during a high-level security review meeting chaired by Anshul Garg, CEO of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), on Friday, attended by senior officials from security agencies, the Army, intelligence services, and civil administration.

The meeting, held in Katra, focused on bolstering security measures for the revered cave shrine. "The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board on Friday held a joint security review meeting in Katra to assess operational readiness and security measures for ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage," Garg stated. He directed officials to operationalize the ICCC by early May, emphasizing its role in revolutionizing security.

The AI-powered ICCC will feature a network of 700 CCTV cameras equipped with advanced capabilities like gesture and face recognition, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) functionality, and real-time monitoring. "The centre will enable swift emergency response and significantly enhance coordination among security agencies," Garg said. The system will leverage data analytics to preempt threats, ensuring a robust defense against potential risks.

Discussions underscored the need for seamless intelligence sharing and inter-agency coordination. To curb impersonation, officials outlined plans to verify the credentials of 'pithoos' (porters) and ponywallas, ensuring only authorized service providers operate. The SSP of Reasi reported that FIRs have been filed against illegal operators, with ongoing checks to enforce compliance.

The security strategy also includes area domination, drone surveillance, and the deployment of additional personnel. New equipment, such as X-Ray baggage scanners, metal detectors, under-vehicle search mirrors, and geo-fencing technology, will further fortify the shrine’s defenses. "Strict adherence to security protocols was underscored, with a zero-tolerance approach towards unauthorized activities," Garg affirmed, aligning with directives from the SMVDSB Chairman.

Enhanced surveillance, intelligence inputs, and access control measures in Katra town were also reviewed to create a secure environment for pilgrims. With the ICCC’s launch, the shrine board is poised to set a new benchmark in pilgrimage safety, blending cutting-edge technology with unwavering commitment to devotee security.
