Uttarakhand CM Assures Tripura CM Full Arrests in Angel Chakma Murder Case
Tripura CM Manik Saha says Uttarakhand CM assured arrest of all accused in Angel Chakma murder case.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday stated that Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured him that all individuals responsible for the murder of 24-year-old Angel Chakma will be arrested. The victim, a final semester MBA student from Nandannagar in West Tripura, was attacked in Dehradun on December 9 after objecting to a racial slur and succumbed to his injuries on December 26.
Saha informed reporters in Hezamara that five accused have already been apprehended, while one remains at large. He added that directives have been issued from the central leadership to ensure swift action by the Uttarakhand government to provide justice to the victim’s family.
Angel Chakma’s death has sparked widespread outrage across the Northeast, prompting protests and demands for stronger measures against racial discrimination. Thousands of students under the Tipra Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF) held a candlelight march in Agartala, covering about one kilometre from the North Gate of Ujjayanta Palace, calling for justice.

The tragic incident has drawn attention to safety and protection issues for students from the Northeast living in other parts of India. Authorities in both Tripura and Uttarakhand have pledged close coordination to ensure that justice is delivered promptly and that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
