Uttar Pradesh Police Conduct Door-to-Door Verification in Kairana’s Nahid Colony

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have launched an extensive door-to-door verification operation in Nahid Colony, situated in Kairana town of Shamli district. This resettlement area houses approximately 300 families who were forced to flee their homes during the devastating 2013 Muzaffarnagar communal riots. Displaced from villages such as Lank, Bahawdi, and Phugana, these families have rebuilt their lives in this colony over the past decade, establishing a community amid the lingering effects of the traumatic events that uprooted them.

The verification drive, conducted on Friday, involved police teams meticulously examining residents' Aadhaar cards, registered mobile numbers, and detailed family information. Circle Officer (Kairana) Hemant Kumar emphasised that the exercise forms part of a statewide initiative to detect and prevent the presence of illegal immigrants, specifically targeting potential Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals infiltrating sensitive areas. The operation reflects broader efforts by law enforcement to maintain security and ensure proper documentation in regions with historical vulnerabilities.

According to official statements, no illegal immigrants have been identified in Nahid Colony to date. Local resident Noor Hasan noted that all families in the colony had previously complied with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, submitting necessary forms to booth level officers. This prior documentation has facilitated smoother verification, underscoring the residents' established status as legitimate riot victims and highlighting their cooperation with administrative procedures.

Parallel operations have intensified in the adjacent Muzaffarnagar district, with a focus on industrial sectors employing migrant labourers. Police units have scrutinised employment records at numerous paper mills and steel factories. Circle Officer Siddharth Mishra reported that factory owners have been issued strict directives to maintain comprehensive registers detailing workers' identities, addresses, and documentation to ensure compliance and transparency, thereby extending the verification net to economic hubs that attract external workforce.

The 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, marked by severe communal clashes primarily between Hindu Jats and Muslims, resulted in over 60 deaths and the displacement of tens of thousands, predominantly from rural areas. The violence, triggered by initial incidents and exacerbated by inflammatory mobilisation, left lasting scars on the region's social fabric, leading to the establishment of multiple resettlement colonies for affected families seeking safety and rehabilitation in the aftermath of one of western Uttar Pradesh's most tragic episodes.
