Uttar Pradesh Allows Wheat Procurement At MSP Without Online Registration Process
UP eases wheat procurement by removing online registration for MSP sales this season
The Uttar Pradesh Government has announced a significant policy change allowing farmers to sell wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) without the mandatory requirement of online registration. The move is aimed at simplifying the procurement process and ensuring that farmers are not excluded from government purchase benefits due to digital or procedural barriers.
Under the revised arrangement, wheat procurement centres across the state will now accept produce from farmers even if they have not completed prior online registration on official procurement portals. Earlier, registration was considered a key step to participate in MSP-based procurement operations, which are typically managed through state-run systems during the Rabi marketing season.
Officials have indicated that the decision is intended to address practical difficulties faced by small and marginal farmers, particularly those in rural areas with limited access to internet services or digital literacy. By removing the compulsory online registration requirement, the government aims to make the procurement system more inclusive and farmer-friendly while ensuring smoother participation in MSP operations.

The MSP mechanism in India is designed to provide farmers with a guaranteed price for select crops, including wheat, thereby protecting them from sharp market price fluctuations. In Uttar Pradesh, wheat procurement is a large-scale operation involving government agencies and procurement centres that coordinate with farmers during the harvesting season. The relaxation of registration norms is expected to increase participation and reduce instances of farmers being unable to sell their produce due to administrative hurdles.
However, authorities are also expected to maintain basic verification measures at procurement centres to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of the system. Officials are likely to issue operational guidelines to procurement teams to balance ease of access with necessary checks. The state government has positioned the decision as part of its broader efforts to improve agricultural procurement efficiency and ensure wider access to MSP benefits.
