USS Abraham Lincoln Faces Strain After Nine-Month Iran War Deployment

Families of sailors serving aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln have raised serious concerns over the mental health and wellbeing of the crew, alleging that prolonged deployment, worsening conditions and repeated extensions have pushed some sailors to the brink. One woman told acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao during the meeting that her husband had messaged her that day saying he hoped he would not wake up the following morning. The account highlighted the severity of concerns being raised by families, who say they have struggled to get adequate support for loved ones facing acute emotional distress while serving aboard the carrier. The USS Abraham Lincoln's prolonged deployment has taken place amid heightened US military involvement connected to the conflict with Iran. Extended naval deployments can place considerable demands on service members, particularly when crews remain away from port facilities and their families for lengthy periods.
