US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer To Meet Piyush Goyal For Trade Deal Discussions
US trade chief Jamieson Greer visits India for key trade deal talks with Piyush Goyal.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is scheduled to visit India on June 23–24 for high-level discussions with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, as both countries work to advance negotiations on an interim trade agreement and the broader bilateral trade agreement (BTA), a senior government official said on Monday.
According to Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, the upcoming talks are expected to focus on giving final shape to the framework of the interim deal that has been under discussion following recent engagements between Indian officials and a visiting US delegation. He added that the discussions would also cover the larger bilateral trade agreement, which remains under active negotiation between the two sides.
Officials confirmed that Greer is expected to arrive in India on June 22, a day before the formal meetings begin. The visit comes shortly after earlier rounds of discussions held between June 2 and 4, when a US delegation led by chief negotiator Brendan Lynch met Indian counterparts to work on resolving outstanding issues in the proposed trade framework.

On June 5, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had indicated that India and the United States were moving closer to finalising the remaining components of the interim trade agreement. He also suggested that both sides were working towards executing the first phase of the broader bilateral trade agreement within a relatively short timeframe, reflecting momentum in ongoing negotiations.
The upcoming visit is expected to be a crucial step in consolidating progress made in recent talks and addressing unresolved areas of concern, including market access, regulatory alignment, and trade facilitation measures. Officials on both sides have described the negotiations as constructive, with an emphasis on building a “vibrant” and mutually beneficial trade framework.
As discussions continue, the India-US trade partnership remains a key focus area for both governments, with the proposed agreements seen as central to strengthening economic ties, improving supply chain resilience, and expanding bilateral investment flows between the two major economies.
