US Secretary Marco Rubio Labels Delhi Blast a Terror Attack, Praises India’s Response

US Secretary hails measured response to deadly Red Fort attack.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio unequivocally labeled the devastating car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort a "clearly" terrorist attack, commending India's "measured, cautious, and very professional" handling of the investigation. Speaking to reporters at the G7 Foreign Ministers' meeting in Canada, Rubio highlighted the blast's ferocity—a vehicle packed with high explosives that detonated on November 10, claiming at least nine lives and injuring dozens—while expressing confidence in New Delhi's capability to uncover the full truth without external aid.

Rubio, who met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the G7 summit, extended heartfelt condolences for the victims and emphasized the probe's ongoing nature. "India is doing a very good job... When they have facts, they'll release those facts," he stated, acknowledging the potential for the incident to escalate into broader regional instability. The US has offered assistance but respects India's self-reliance, underscoring strengthened bilateral ties amid discussions on global security challenges.

The explosion, the first major terror strike in India since the April Pahalgam shooting that killed 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, unfolded hours after security forces dismantled a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) cell, seizing 3,000 kg of explosives and assault rifles linked to the Pakistan-based group. Occurring around 7 pm at the Subhash Marg signal adjacent to the historic Red Fort, the blast mangled vehicles and sent shockwaves through the capital, prompting immediate cordons and heightened alerts.

India's Union Cabinet formally classified the event as a "heinous terror incident perpetrated by anti-national forces," observing a two-minute silence and vowing zero tolerance. Home Minister Amit Shah, chairing high-level security reviews, directed agencies to "hunt down each and every culprit," promising the full force of the law against perpetrators and their backers in a resolute statement.

As the National Investigation Agency deepens its multi-agency probe into the JeM module's radicalized operatives, international solidarity grows, with Rubio's remarks reinforcing US-India counterterrorism collaboration. The incident has intensified scrutiny on cross-border threats, with authorities racing to prevent copycat attacks while families mourn and the nation unites against terror.
