US-Iran Talks Face Fresh Hurdle As Tehran Revises Draft Agreement
Negotiations continue after Washington seeks tougher conditions.
Iran is preparing to revise the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) currently under negotiation with the United States after reviewing Washington's latest amendments, according to reports. Iranian officials have stressed that discussions remain ongoing and that no final agreement has been reached, despite recent revisions proposed by the US side.
The development follows reports that the United States made changes to portions of the draft agreement and returned the revised text to Tehran for consideration. In response, Iranian negotiators are expected to submit their own modifications, reflecting Tehran's position on several unresolved issues. Officials familiar with the process indicated that Iran will carefully review the revised document before presenting its response.
Sources cited in the reports emphasised that Iran will only support a version of the agreement that it believes adequately protects its national interests. They also clarified that amendments introduced by Washington should not be interpreted as having received Iranian approval. The remarks underscore the continuing differences between the two sides as they seek common ground on key provisions.

Among the reported sticking points are issues related to Iran's frozen assets and clauses concerning the country's nuclear material. Reports suggest that US President Donald Trump has expressed concerns about elements of the draft and is seeking stricter conditions in certain areas. These issues remain central to the negotiations and are expected to be the focus of further discussions between the two governments.
The proposed memorandum of understanding is intended to establish a framework for ending the conflict that reportedly began on February 28 following US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Negotiators from both sides have been working to address contentious issues and develop a mutually acceptable roadmap aimed at reducing tensions and creating conditions for a broader settlement.
While progress has reportedly been made in several areas, officials have cautioned that significant differences remain. With both Washington and Tehran continuing to review and revise the draft text, the outcome of the negotiations remains uncertain. Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming days as both sides attempt to move closer to a final agreement.
