US Denies Seeking Iran Ceasefire; Talks May Resume In Pakistan

US denies ceasefire move as Pakistan emerges key mediator in Iran talks.

The White House has firmly denied reports that the United States sought a ceasefire with Iran, even as it signalled that fresh diplomatic talks could soon take place in Pakistan to revive stalled negotiations. Speaking at a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said claims that Washington had requested a ceasefire were “wrong,” emphasising that ongoing discussions with Tehran remain “productive.” She indicated that a second round of talks is being explored, with Pakistan emerging as a key mediator in efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

The clarification comes after recent high-level negotiations between the US and Iran in Islamabad failed to produce a breakthrough. Despite the lack of agreement, officials on both sides have kept communication channels open, raising the possibility of renewed engagement in the coming days.

Pakistan has played an increasingly prominent diplomatic role, facilitating dialogue and attempting to bridge gaps between the two sides. Any future talks are likely to be hosted there again, reflecting its position as a central intermediary in the crisis.

However, significant hurdles remain. Key sticking points include disagreements over Iran’s nuclear programme, the scope of any ceasefire, and broader regional tensions involving Israel and Hezbollah. Continued military activity in the region has further complicated the negotiation process and raised doubts about the durability of any potential agreement.

Despite these challenges, US officials have expressed cautious optimism about the prospects for a deal. Analysts note that sustained diplomatic engagement, coupled with mediation efforts, could still pave the way for a framework agreement, although the path to a comprehensive resolution remains uncertain.
