US Agencies: Indian-Origin Man Beheaded After Biden Admin Released Accused

US agencies blame the Biden administration for the preventable murder of an Indian-American in Dallas.

U.S. law enforcement agencies have condemned the Biden administration for releasing a Cuban national with a violent criminal history into the country, claiming the decision directly enabled the gruesome beheading of 50-year-old Indian-origin motel manager Chandra Nagamallaiah in Dallas, Texas. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described the killing as a "savage slaying" that was "completely preventable," noting that suspect Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, allegedly decapitated Nagamallaiah in front of his wife and child before kicking the severed head.

Nagalammaiah, a respected figure in the local Indian-American community, was attacked at the Downtown Suites motel where both he and Cobos-Martinez worked as co-workers. ICE stated in an X post that the incident occurred just a week before President Donald Trump's inauguration, emphasizing that Cuba's refusal to repatriate Cobos-Martinez led to his release onto American streets. DHS labeled the perpetrator a "vile monster" and highlighted his prior convictions for child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment. The agency affirmed that under the current administration, such criminals face swift removal to third countries like Eswatini, Uganda, South Sudan, or El Salvador's CECOT prison.

President Trump addressed the tragedy on Truth Social Sunday, calling Nagamallaiah a "well-respected person" and vowing aggressive prosecution. "This criminal illegal alien should never have been in our country," Trump wrote, criticizing the Biden era's "incompetence" for allowing Cobos-Martinez's release despite his record. He praised DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Border Czar Tom Homan for prioritizing border security and ending leniency toward "barbaric criminals."

Texas Senator Ted Cruz echoed the outrage, stating Nagamallaiah "should still be with us today, living peacefully with his family in Dallas." He demanded the maximum punishment for the murderer. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, a prominent Indian-American lawmaker, expressed horror at the "brutal murder" of a hardworking immigrant, extending condolences to the family and calling for full prosecution. The incident has reignited debates on immigration enforcement, with critics arguing it exemplifies policy failures that endanger communities.

Cobos-Martinez, who remains in custody, faces first-degree murder charges. ICE confirmed his release from detention earlier this year after Cuba rejected deportation. As investigations continue, the case underscores tensions over U.S. immigration practices, particularly repatriation challenges with non-cooperative nations, and the human cost of perceived lapses in vetting and detention protocols.
