UP CM Calls Disha Patani House Shooter ‘Maareech’ During Mission Shakti Event
Ramanivas arrested after firing at Disha Patani’s house; CM stresses strict action on criminals.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath compared a shooter arrested in connection with a firing incident at actor Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly to “Maareech,” a mythical demon known for deception in the Ramayan. Speaking at a function in Lok Bhawan, Adityanath emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against women, stating, “A criminal involved in women-related crime entered like Maareech, but when the Uttar Pradesh Police’s bullet hit him, he vowed never to return.” The chief minister underscored that such decisive action is essential for all criminals threatening women’s safety.
The accused, Ramanivas, was apprehended after a police encounter in Bareilly on Friday, during which he sustained a leg injury. His associate, Anil, was also arrested. Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya reported that Ramanivas confessed to his involvement in the shooting. Police recovered a .32-bore pistol, four live cartridges, and four spent shells from the scene. A video circulating on social media shows Ramanivas pleading, “I will never come to Baba’s Uttar Pradesh again,” referring to Adityanath.
During the event, Adityanath launched Mission Shakti-5.0, a campaign focused on women’s safety, dignity, and self-reliance. He highlighted significant progress in women’s welfare since 2017, including the recruitment of over 44,000 women police personnel and mandatory 20% female participation in police recruitment. The chief minister also noted that from January 2024 to March 2025, 12,271 criminals were convicted in 9,513 women-related cases, including 12 death sentences and 987 life imprisonments.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.
