United States Deports 30 Indians Over Illegal Trucking Employment
US orders deportation of 30 Indians over illegal truck driving employment violations.
About 30 Indian nationals working as commercial truck drivers in the United States have been arrested and are set to be deported after being found to be residing in the country illegally, according to US authorities. The arrests were carried out during a federal enforcement drive titled ‘Operation Checkmate’, conducted by Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector in Arizona between May 11 and May 15. In total, 52 individuals were detained during the operation for being in the US without legal status, including 36 who were found operating semi-trucks.
Of the 36 illegal commercial drivers identified, 30 were from India, while the remaining individuals were from Mexico, El Salvador, and Russia. Officials said the drivers held commercial driving licences issued by several US states, including California, New York, Washington, and Virginia, though some reportedly did not possess any valid licence at all.
Authorities also stated that many of the individuals had employment authorisation documents issued during the previous administration, which were later deemed invalid. All detainees were processed under federal immigration laws and are expected to be deported in due course, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

Officials said Operation Checkmate was designed to strengthen road safety and enforce immigration laws by identifying individuals unlawfully operating commercial vehicles. Acting Chief Patrol Agent Dustin Caudle of the Yuma Sector said the initiative aims to prevent unsafe drivers from operating large trucks on American roads.
The operation comes amid broader scrutiny of commercial driving regulations in the US, with authorities reporting previous cases involving foreign-origin truck drivers linked to serious road accidents. The latest enforcement action reflects heightened federal attention on licensing, immigration compliance, and road safety standards within the commercial transport sector.
