UK-Based AI Graduate Struggles to Find Job, Plans Return to India

NRI techie with AI degree fails UK job hunt.

An Indian professional living in the United Kingdom is considering returning to India after struggling to secure a job in his field despite eight months of applications. The non-resident Indian recently completed a master’s degree in artificial intelligence but said repeated rejections and a lack of opportunities had left him feeling increasingly hopeless about his career prospects in the country.

Sharing his experience in a Reddit post, the tech professional said he had made consistent efforts to improve his chances of finding employment. He claimed to have networked extensively, attended hackathons, maintained an active LinkedIn profile and completed several projects to strengthen his credentials. Despite these efforts, he said he had repeatedly failed to clear the initial screening rounds of recruitment processes.

“I just finished my Master’s in AI from the UK and I am feeling very hopeless. It’s been eight months, and I cannot find a job,” the user wrote. His experience highlighted the difficulties some international graduates face while attempting to enter competitive technology fields, particularly when seeking specialised roles that require relevant professional experience.

The man said he was currently working full-time but that his job was unrelated to artificial intelligence or his area of expertise. He also expressed concern about salaries in the United Kingdom, arguing that earnings appeared low when compared with the country’s high cost of living and the opportunities available in India. The mismatch between his qualifications and current employment had added to his frustration.

Running out of patience after months of unsuccessful applications, the tech professional said he was planning to return to India the following month and begin applying for jobs there. He added that he had only one year of internship experience in the United Kingdom, a factor that could have affected his ability to secure a full-time position in the highly competitive artificial intelligence sector.

The post prompted the man to seek advice from social media users on whether returning to India and starting afresh would be the right decision. His account reflects wider concerns among some international graduates about finding employment that matches their qualifications, while also balancing visa considerations, professional experience, salaries and living costs when deciding whether to remain abroad or return home.
