Udhayanidhi Stalin Targets Vijay With 'Wife Looking For Husband' Comment
Political rivalry heats up with personal remarks.
A heated exchange in the Tamil Nadu Assembly escalated into a political and personal confrontation as Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Vijay. The remarks came during a debate in the Assembly, where political differences over governance and corruption allegations quickly turned into a war of words. The controversy has drawn widespread attention, with observers criticizing the shift from policy discussions to personal attacks.
Speaking outside the Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin referred to an ongoing family court case involving Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam. He remarked that Tamil Nadu was aware of the “story of the wife looking for a husband in the Chengalpattu court,” an apparent reference to divorce proceedings reportedly filed in December 2025. The case, which concerns the couple’s 27-year marriage, is currently being heard by the family court, with further proceedings scheduled in the coming months. The comments immediately sparked debate over the appropriateness of bringing personal matters into political discourse.
The confrontation began after Vijay, addressing the Assembly during his reply to the Governor’s address, accused the previous government of misusing public money under the guise of party fund collections. He asserted that his administration would recover funds allegedly misappropriated and pledged that his party would maintain transparency in governance. The remarks prompted strong objections from opposition legislators, who demanded evidence to support the allegations and challenged the chief minister’s statements on the Assembly floor.

As tensions rose, opposition members interrupted the proceedings and raised points of order. However, the Speaker ruled that Vijay should be allowed to complete his speech without interruption. Continuing his address, the chief minister declared that his government would not tolerate corruption and would ensure that public resources were protected. His speech also included criticism of previous administrations, further intensifying the political atmosphere inside the House.
Adding to the controversy, a video clip from the Assembly session went viral on social media, showing Vijay apparently mimicking a hand gesture previously associated with senior DMK leaders. Supporters and critics interpreted the gesture in different ways, fueling online discussion about its political significance. The clip quickly became one of the most discussed moments from the session, overshadowing several policy issues raised during the debate.
Outside the Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin continued his criticism, describing Vijay’s speech as a performance designed primarily for social media and viral clips. Drawing comparisons to the film industry, he accused the ruling party of turning the legislature into a “cinema theatre” and suggested that the chief minister’s address appeared scripted. The exchange reflects the increasingly confrontational political environment in Tamil Nadu, where the rivalry between major parties continues to dominate public and legislative discourse.
