Two Indian-Origin Cricketers in Australia’s U-19 Squad for Home Series vs India

Young Aussie squad gets Indian connection boost

Australia on Friday announced a 15-member squad for next month’s Under-19 home series against India, with two Indian-origin players—batter Aryan Sharma and all-rounder Yash Deshmukh—earning their place in the national youth setup.

Sharma, a promising top-order batter from Victoria, and Deshmukh, one of five New South Wales players selected, will feature in a multi-format series beginning September 21. The squad will be led by former Australia men’s head coach Tim Nielsen, in his first assignment in charge of the U-19s.

The tour kicks off with three 50-over matches at Brisbane’s Ian Healy Oval on September 21, 24, and 26, followed by two four-day matches—the first in Brisbane from September 30 to October 3, and the second in Mackay from October 7 to 10.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Tim Nielsen as Head Coach of the National U-19 squad,” said Sonya Thompson, Cricket Australia’s Head of National Development. “His international experience and leadership will be instrumental in guiding Australia’s next generation of cricketers.”

Cricket Australia has positioned the series as part of its long-term player development strategy, designed to give rising stars competitive experience in both white-ball and red-ball formats against top-tier opposition.

Australia Men’s U-19 Squad:
Simon Budge, Alex Turner, Steve Hogan, Will Malajczuk, Yash Deshmukh, Tom Hogan, Aryan Sharma, John James, Hayden Schiller, Charles Lachmund, Ben Gordon, Will Byrom, Kasey Barton, Alex Lee Young, Jayden Draper.

Reserves: Zed Hollick, Tom Paddington, Julian Osborne.

With India’s U-19 side traditionally a strong contender on the youth circuit, the series promises to be a key test for Australia’s emerging talent ahead of future ICC tournaments.
