TVK Projected 98-120 Seats: Vijay Emerges As MGR Successor
Axis My India projects TVK's 98-120 seats rivaling DMK; historic actor-CM parallel to MGR.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s entry into electoral politics has triggered comparisons with former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), but exit poll projections for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections suggest a more complex and uncertain trajectory for his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Multiple exit polls indicate that the ruling DMK-led alliance under M.K. Stalin is likely to retain power, though with a reduced margin compared to previous elections. At the same time, Vijay’s TVK is widely seen as a significant new force that could reshape the state’s political landscape, even if it does not secure a clear majority on its own.
Some projections, particularly from Axis My India, have suggested a dramatic scenario in which TVK could win between 98 and 120 seats in the 234-member Assembly, placing it near or above the majority mark of 118 seats. Such estimates have fueled speculation that Vijay could replicate the political success of film icons like MGR, who transitioned from cinema to power in Tamil Nadu.

However, other surveys present a more restrained picture. Several polls estimate TVK’s tally in the range of 10 to 26 seats, positioning the party as a potential kingmaker rather than the primary contender for power. In these scenarios, Vijay’s influence lies in disrupting traditional vote banks, particularly impacting the AIADMK alliance and altering electoral equations across constituencies.
The broader consensus across exit polls is that while Vijay’s debut has energized voters—especially younger demographics—and introduced a third force into what has historically been a bipolar contest, it may not yet be sufficient to unseat entrenched political structures. His emergence is nevertheless viewed as a long-term development that could redefine Dravidian politics in the coming years.
The final outcome will only be confirmed when votes are counted, but early indicators suggest that Vijay’s political journey may be closer to the early stages of MGR’s rise rather than an immediate replication of it—marking the beginning of a potentially significant, but still evolving, political career.
