Trump-Xi Summit Proceeds May 14-15 Despite China's Concerns Over Unresolved Iran War

The Trump-Xi summit proceeds May 14-15 despite China's Iran concerns.

US President Donald Trump is moving ahead with plans to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing next week despite concerns within China over the ongoing Iran conflict and instability in the Strait of Hormuz. The high-profile summit is currently scheduled for May 14-15 and is expected to focus on trade, geopolitical tensions, and global energy security.

The meeting had already been postponed once because of the war involving Iran, which has disrupted crude oil shipments and triggered a wider global energy crisis. China, one of the world’s biggest importers of Middle Eastern crude oil, has reportedly expressed unease about holding the summit before the conflict is fully resolved. However, officials from both countries have indicated that preparations for the visit are continuing without any further scheduling changes.

Speaking to reporters, Donald Trump said he was looking forward to the meeting and described Xi Jinping as a long-time friend. Trump also claimed the United States had “no problem” with China regarding Iran. Meanwhile, a White House official confirmed that plans for the Beijing summit remain on track, although details of the visit have not been publicly disclosed.

The Iran conflict continues to cast a shadow over global diplomacy. American forces recently responded to attacks on US Navy destroyers near the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States has maintained restrictions on Iranian shipping routes. The disruptions have affected fuel supplies to several countries, including China, and have increased pressure on global energy markets. Chinese officials have reportedly urged the reopening of the strait and pushed for a diplomatic solution to restore shipping stability.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and called for swift reopening of the key maritime route. Despite the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran, uncertainty remains over whether tensions could escalate again if negotiations fail. Trump has warned that military action could resume if Iran does not fully reopen the waterway.

The summit between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping is being closely watched globally, as both leaders attempt to balance strategic rivalry with economic cooperation amid rising geopolitical instability.
