Trump To Address US 250th Birthday Rally Despite Storm Threats In Washington
Trump presses ahead despite storms threatening Washington celebration.
The United States marked the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026, with celebrations taking place across the country despite adverse weather conditions in the nation's capital. The milestone, known as the Semiquincentennial, commemorates two and a half centuries since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. President Donald Trump said he would deliver his scheduled address on the National Mall "no matter what," even as thunderstorms threatened to disrupt the event.
Ahead of the celebrations, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to attending the anniversary gathering despite forecasts of heavy rain and lightning. In a social media post, he said the weather would not prevent the country's 250th birthday celebrations from going ahead. "I will be there no matter what," Trump wrote, adding, "It's Saturday night, LETS HAVE SOME FUN, even if we are out late tonight." His remarks came as thousands of people gathered in Washington for one of the largest events organised to commemorate the historic occasion.
The celebration was organised under the White House-backed Freedom 250 initiative, which has overseen several events marking the nation's Semiquincentennial. The programme is part of a broader series of commemorative activities taking place throughout the year to celebrate the founding of the United States, with ceremonies, public gatherings and cultural events highlighting the country's history and heritage.

Severe weather, however, posed a significant challenge to the planned festivities. A line of summer thunderstorms moved toward Washington, prompting officials to issue weather alerts for lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds. As a precaution, the National Mall was evacuated for approximately two hours, with visitors directed to nearby federal buildings, museums and other designated shelters while authorities monitored conditions and assessed when it would be safe for the event to resume.
Despite the temporary disruption, officials continued preparations for the anniversary programme, underscoring the significance of the historic milestone. The 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence is regarded as one of the most important commemorations in modern American history, reflecting the nation's founding principles and its evolution over the past two and a half centuries. Organisers remained hopeful that the weather would improve sufficiently to allow the celebrations, including the President's address, to proceed as planned, with Trump insisting that the event would continue regardless of the conditions.
