Trump Slaps 30% Tariffs on EU and Mexico Starting August 1, Citing Trade and Security Concerns!
President Trump accuses them of unfair trade practices and insufficient action on migration and drugs
President Donald Trump announced Saturday that the United States will impose 30% tariffs on goods from the European Union and Mexico starting August 1, targeting two of its largest trade partners. In letters posted on Truth Social, Trump accused the EU of exploiting the U.S. with a $250 billion trade deficit and Mexico of failing to curb drug trafficking, despite some progress on migration and fentanyl.
The EU, facing a potential $29.3 billion hit on exports, vowed to retaliate against “unjustified” barriers, while Mexico’s response remains unclear. The tariffs, part of Trump’s broader trade agenda, follow a paused 50% EU tariff threat and aim to address trade imbalances and national security concerns, including drug flows. Economists warn of economic fallout, with U.S. consumers likely facing higher prices.
