Trump Sends Reporters on Decoy Flight, Citing Iranian Security Threat

US President Donald Trump reportedly told reporters they were on a “dangerous flight” shortly before he was secretly moved from the main presidential aircraft to a smaller military plane during his return journey from a NATO summit in Turkey. The unusual security operation took place on July 8 and was prompted by an Iranian threat, according to the report. Trump’s remarks came shortly before the journalists were left aboard the primary aircraft, which was subsequently used as a decoy.

The main aircraft was carrying members of the White House press pool, security personnel and support staff. It was sent into the air ahead of Trump as part of the security arrangement. Trump was reportedly moved away from the aircraft at the airport and boarded a secondary military plane. The operation was carried out discreetly, with the president reportedly concealed inside an airport catering container during the transfer.

The journalists aboard the primary aircraft were instructed to lower their window shades during the flight. When reporters asked Trump about the unusual instruction, he reportedly responded that they were “probably on a dangerous flight,” referring to what he described as the threats posed by people the US administration had to deal with. The comment came as security concerns surrounding the president’s travel arrangements prompted an unprecedented change in the usual presidential flight procedure.
