Trump Says Venezuela to Buy Only US‑Made Products With Oil Deal Funds

President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Venezuela's interim authorities have committed to purchasing only American-made products using revenues from a newly arranged oil deal with the United States. In a post on Truth Social, Trump detailed that these purchases will prioritize U.S. agricultural products, medicines, medical devices, and equipment essential for upgrading Venezuela's electric grid and energy infrastructure.

The declaration follows the dramatic U.S. military operation that captured former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on January 3 in Caracas. Maduro, indicted on charges of drug trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracies, was transferred to New York, where he faces trial. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez subsequently assumed the role of acting president.

Trump emphasized that the agreement positions the United States as Venezuela's principal partner, describing it as a strategic and beneficial choice for both nations. He stated that proceeds from Venezuelan oil sales, including an initial transfer of 30 to 50 million barrels, will be controlled by the U.S. to ensure mutual advantages.
