Trump Says US Would Hit Iran Again “Only Harder” Amid Ongoing Peace Talks
Trump warns US could strike Iran again harder.
US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying Washington would strike “very hard again” if Tehran failed to rein in its regional proxy groups, even as high-level US-Iran peace talks were underway in Switzerland. His remarks came through a post on his social media platform Truth Social during sensitive negotiations aimed at stabilising tensions in West Asia.
Trump referenced a recent US military strike on Iran and cautioned that any continued activity by Iran-backed groups, particularly Hezbollah in Lebanon, could trigger a stronger response. He urged Tehran to immediately stop what he described as its “highly paid proxies” from “causing trouble,” adding that failure to comply would result in renewed and intensified military action.
The warning came at a time when diplomatic engagement between the two countries had entered a critical phase. US Vice President JD Vance described the talks at the Burgenstock resort as a “historic meeting,” stating that both sides were exploring whether relations could move toward long-term de-escalation or revert to confrontation. He said the objective was to “turn over a new leaf” in bilateral ties.

The negotiations are being led on the US side by Vice President Vance along with special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner. Iran is represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Pakistan and Qatar are participating as mediators, while other international officials are also present in an observer capacity.
The discussions follow a preliminary agreement signed earlier to establish a framework for ending hostilities and addressing nuclear-related concerns. However, Trump’s latest remarks underline the fragility of the process, as diplomatic efforts continue alongside sharp political rhetoric and ongoing regional tensions.
