Trump Says He Admires PM Modi And Xi Jinping In Leadership Question
Trump names Modi and Xi among leaders he admires most.
US President Donald Trump has said he admires Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping the most among world leaders, making the remarks during an interview on The Axios Show shortly after attending a G7 summit in France that he described as “very dominant.”
In the interview, Trump characterised Chinese President Xi Jinping as “all business” and described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “a very tough cookie.” He declined to name any world leaders he considers the weakest, while also reflecting on recent global diplomatic events, including discussions around the absence of Russia from the G7 grouping following its expulsion after the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
Trump also spoke about his interactions at the G7 summit, highlighting French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to host him at a dinner at Versailles, which he described as an “imperial setting” and referred to as “my weakness.” He further claimed that he had discovered “no limits” to his power following recent geopolitical developments involving Iran, reiterating his strong stance on US foreign policy influence.

Separately, Trump referred to a forthcoming book titled Regime Change, authored by journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, which reportedly examines his views on global power and comparisons with historical leaders. According to excerpts cited in the report, the book discusses how Trump has reflected on figures such as Napoleon, Stalin, Mao, and others while considering his own influence in global politics.
The report also notes that Trump posted a document on his Truth Social platform, which he said highlighted his position as potentially the most powerful leader in history. The authors of the book, however, reportedly attribute the document’s origin to a confidant of professional golfer Gary Player, rather than a formal historian, adding further context to the claims surrounding its content.
During the interview, Trump also commented on relations with Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing their ties as strong while suggesting he maintains significant influence over key decisions. He further reiterated his belief that US actions in Iran had led to what he described as “unconditional surrender,” framing recent developments as a demonstration of American strength on the global stage.
