Trump Praises Tim Cook While Recalling Controversial Past Phone Call

Trump praised Tim Cook while claiming Apple CEO once called him in controversial past interaction.

US President Donald Trump has made fresh remarks about Apple CEO Tim Cook following reports that Cook will step down later this year, praising him while also making a series of self-referential claims in a post on his social media platform Truth Social. The comments have drawn attention for their tone and the mix of personal anecdotes and political messaging.

In his post, Trump described Cook as an “incredible guy” and said he has long been a supporter of both Cook and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. He added that while Jobs built Apple’s early legacy, Cook’s leadership had taken the company to even greater heights. Trump suggested that Apple’s success under Cook surpassed what might have been achieved otherwise.

The post also included a recounting of Trump’s interactions with Cook during his presidency. Trump claimed that Cook once called him with a “fairly large problem” that required presidential intervention, adding that he handled the matter “quickly and effectively.” He further said that Cook had contacted him on multiple occasions during his term for assistance on business-related issues.

However, Trump’s remarks also included controversial phrasing and humour-laced commentary, including a reference to Cook allegedly calling him to “kiss my a**,” which has been widely noted in coverage of the post. He also repeated an earlier public mistake in which he referred to Cook as “Tim Apple,” adding it as part of his recollection of their interactions.

Trump further claimed that he had provided “big helps” to Apple during his presidency and suggested that Cook’s outreach to him reflected the importance of his influence on business leaders. He described the relationship as long-standing and positive, stating that Cook “would call, but never too much,” and that he assisted when possible.

The comments come as Apple prepares for a leadership transition, with Cook expected to step down after a tenure that began in 2011. Under his leadership, Apple expanded its global dominance in consumer technology, particularly in smartphones and services. Cook will be succeeded by John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, marking a significant shift in the company’s top leadership.
