Trump Lauds Harmeet Dhillon From White House Stage: "Harmeet Is On Their Trail"

Trump praises Harmeet Dhillon's civil rights role at a White House event.

US President Donald Trump praised Indian-American civil rights official Harmeet Kaur Dhillon during a Black History Month reception at the White House, highlighting her role amid ongoing legal scrutiny involving Harvard and other institutions.

Speaking at the Wednesday event, Trump acknowledged Dhillon while referencing civil rights enforcement efforts, remarking, “Harmeet is on their trail, right?” Dhillon, born in 1969, currently serves as Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, a position she assumed in 2025, making her one of the most senior Indian Americans in the administration.

The president used the occasion to showcase his administration’s record on criminal justice reform, public safety, and economic performance. He cited the First Step Act as a landmark reform and pointed to long-term funding support for historically Black colleges and universities, while also claiming strong economic indicators, including stock market gains and employment growth.

The event also featured remarks from criminal justice reform advocate Alice Marie Johnson, whose sentence Trump commuted during his first term. She credited the president for her release and praised his outreach to Black Americans during the reception.

Dhillon’s public mention at a major White House event underscores the growing visibility of Indian Americans in influential US government roles, particularly in areas such as civil rights enforcement and federal legal policy.
