Trump Confirms Military Action as Israel And US Launch Coordinated Airstrikes Across Iran
Coordinated strikes target Tehran as Washington intensifies pressure over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Iran was struck by joint daylight airstrikes launched by Israel and the United States on Saturday, marking a dramatic escalation in regional tensions. The coordinated assault targeted multiple locations, including sites in the capital, Tehran, as US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had initiated what he described as “major combat operations” against the Islamic Republic.
An apparent initial strike was reported near the offices of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It was not immediately clear whether the 86-year-old leader was present at the time of the attack. Khamenei has not appeared in public for several days amid intensifying rhetoric and military positioning between Tehran and Washington.
In remarks following the strikes, Trump issued a stark warning to Iran’s military establishment, offering what he termed a choice between “immunity” or “certain death.” He also addressed the Iranian public directly, urging citizens to “take over your government — it will be yours to take.” The comments signaled a sharp escalation in tone, suggesting broader strategic aims beyond military deterrence.

Israel’s Defence Ministry described its involvement as a “pre-emptive strike” intended to counter perceived threats linked to Iran’s nuclear programme. Air-raid sirens sounded across Jerusalem, and residents received mobile alerts warning of an “extremely serious” threat, underscoring fears of possible retaliatory action. Israeli authorities did not immediately release details about specific targets or the extent of the damage.
The operation follows weeks of heightened military deployments by Washington in the region, including the movement of additional fighter jets and warships. US officials have framed the build-up as an effort to pressure Tehran over its nuclear activities, which Western powers have long argued could lead to weapons development. Iranian authorities had previously maintained that their nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. The full scale of casualties and damage from Saturday’s strikes remains unclear as the situation continues to unfold.
