Trump Blames “Democrat-Ensued Chaos” for Fatal Shootings by Immigration Officers in Minneapolis
Trump attributes two fatal shootings by immigration agents to Democrat-fueled chaos in Minneapolis.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday attributed the recent fatal shootings of two Americans in Minneapolis to what he described as “Democrat-ensued chaos,” in a series of posts on his Truth Social platform. The deaths occurred during federal immigration enforcement operations, sparking nationwide debate over law enforcement tactics and Trump’s hard-line immigration agenda.
In lengthy posts, Trump accused Minnesota Democratic officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, of inciting unrest and obstructing federal operations. He urged local authorities to cooperate fully with immigration officers and hand over undocumented immigrants in state custody or with criminal records for deportation.
Trump’s remarks followed the shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti at a protest in Minneapolis, which intensified scrutiny over his planned mass deportation program. While pledging the largest deportation initiative in U.S. history, Trump refused to comment on whether the officer involved acted appropriately, saying investigations were ongoing.

Amid rising Republican concern over enforcement methods, Trump also called on Congress to pass legislation banning sanctuary cities, which limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The controversy has raised concerns of a potential partial government shutdown over immigration funding disputes.
White House aides defended the officer’s actions, describing Pretti as armed and provocative, with Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller labeling him “an assassin” without providing evidence. Vice President JD Vance echoed the claims, calling the situation in Minneapolis “engineered chaos” caused by far-left agitators in coordination with local officials.
Trump’s handling of the incident drew criticism for a lack of public appearances or direct condolences over the weekend. Instead, the president posted on unrelated issues, including international remarks and domestic construction lawsuits, before returning focus to immigration enforcement and legislative action late Sunday.
