Truck slams into tractor-trolley, injuring 43 on pilgrimage.

In a devastating accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, eight pilgrims, including two children, lost their lives, and 43 others were injured when a truck collided with a tractor-trolley in the early hours of Monday, August 25, 2025. The tragic incident occurred around 2:10 AM near the Arnia bypass on the Bulandshahr-Aligarh border, police reported.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dinesh Kumar Singh, the tractor-trolley, carrying 61 passengers from Rafatpur village in Kasganj district, was en route to Jaharpeer in Rajasthan for a religious pilgrimage when a canter truck rammed into it from behind. The impact caused the tractor-trolley to overturn, leading to catastrophic consequences for the passengers. “Eight people died, and 43 are undergoing treatment. Three of the injured are critical and on ventilator support,” Singh said.

The deceased have been identified as tractor driver E U Babu (40), Rambeti (65), Chandni (12), Ghaniram (40), Mokshi (40), Shivansh (6), Yogesh (50), and Vinod (45), all residents of Kasganj district. Among the 43 injured, 12 are children under 18, highlighting the heartbreaking toll on young lives. Ten passengers sustained minor injuries and did not require extensive medical attention.

Emergency services swiftly responded, rushing the victims to multiple hospitals for treatment. Ten were admitted to Aligarh Medical College, ten to Bulandshahr district hospital, and 23 to Kailash Hospital in Khurja. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the precise causes of death, police confirmed.

District Magistrate Shruti, along with SSP Singh and other senior officials, visited the accident site amid light drizzle to assess the situation. They later met with the injured at one of the hospitals, offering support and ensuring proper medical care. The truck, registered in Haryana, has been impounded, and police have initiated legal proceedings against the driver, who is under investigation for reckless driving.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents of Rafatpur village mourning the loss of their loved ones. The tragedy underscores the dangers of overcrowded vehicles and inadequate road safety measures, particularly on rural highways during late hours. Authorities are now reviewing safety protocols to prevent such accidents in the future, while families of the victims grapple with the sudden loss and trauma.
