Israeli defence official meets Rajnath Singh, pledges stronger strategic defence cooperation.

A senior Israeli defence delegation met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday, reaffirming both countries’ intent to further expand their strategic defence partnership under the India–Israel Special Strategic Partnership framework. The meeting underscored ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation in key defence and technology areas between the two nations.

According to a statement from the Defence Minister’s Office, Major General (Retd) Amir Baram, Director General at Israel’s Ministry of Defence, briefed Singh on Israel’s commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral defence cooperation. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration under the broader umbrella of the Special Strategic Partnership shared by India and Israel.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both sides, including Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Israel’s Ambassador to India Reuven Azar, and other representatives. Their presence highlighted the importance both governments place on maintaining regular high-level engagement in defence and security matters.

Following the meeting, Ambassador Reuven Azar publicly thanked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for hosting the Israeli delegation. In a post on social media, he noted that India and Israel are working on developing joint projects aimed at further strengthening and uniquely advancing their bilateral partnership in the defence sector.

The engagement comes amid a series of recent high-level exchanges between India and Israel. In April, India’s Ambassador to Israel, J P Singh, reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to deepening the Special Strategic Partnership during an interaction with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at an event marking Israel’s Independence Day celebrations.

Earlier in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to elevate bilateral ties further during discussions that included expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and defence. Both leaders also emphasised advancing collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, signalling a broader strategic convergence between the two countries.
