Tom Cruise Snubs Trump’s Kennedy Center Honor Invite
Tom Cruise declines Kennedy Center Honor invite from Trump due to scheduling conflicts.
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has reportedly declined an invitation to receive a Kennedy Center Honor during US President Donald Trump’s second term, citing scheduling conflicts. According to a report by The Washington Post, several current and former Kennedy Center employees, speaking anonymously, confirmed that Cruise was offered the honor but was unable to attend due to prior commitments. Cruise’s spokesperson has declined to comment on the matter.
The Kennedy Center Honors, one of the nation’s most prestigious arts awards, recognize outstanding contributions to American culture through the performing arts. In the latest announcement, President Trump named recipients including Sylvester Stallone, George Strait, Gloria Gaynor, rock band KISS, and British theater star Michael Crawford. This marks part of Trump’s recent efforts to take direct control of the Kennedy Center, including assuming the role of board chairman earlier this year.
Despite declining the Kennedy Center invitation, Cruise is scheduled to receive an honorary Oscar for his contributions to the film industry later this year. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced that he will be honored at the 2025 Governors Awards in November. Cruise has earned multiple Oscar nominations over his career, notably for performances in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia, and as a producer for Top Gun: Maverick. He was most recently featured in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
