Three Injured as Slab Falls From Fifth Floor in Thane's Nutan Neelam Apartment

Slab from fifth floor collapses in Thane building; three hurt, 80 rescued.

Three people were injured, and around 80 residents were rescued after a slab from a fifth-floor flat collapsed inside a residential building in Wagle Estate early Tuesday, officials said. One of the injured persons is reported to be in critical condition.

The incident occurred at about 3:07 am at the five-storey Nutan Neelam Apartment in Shantinagar. According to the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, the slab from a fifth-floor unit crashed into the flat directly below on the fourth floor, causing injuries to one resident from the upper apartment and two occupants of the lower home.

All three injured individuals were rushed to a hospital in Thane, while the critically injured person was later shifted to a medical facility in Mumbai for advanced treatment. Emergency response teams reached the spot soon after the collapse and began evacuation and rescue operations in the building, which is estimated to be around 30–35 years old.

Officials said approximately 80 to 85 people were residing in the structure, comprising A and B wings with 26 tenements. About half of the evacuated residents have been temporarily accommodated at a Thane Municipal Corporation school in Shantinagar, while others arranged shelter independently.

The building had earlier been classified under the C2B category, indicating it required major repairs but was not considered immediately dangerous. However, following the incident, authorities sealed the structure, citing safety risks. Power supply to the building was disconnected, and police secured the area as further assessment of the remaining structure continues.
