Telangana Minister Uttam Confirms Steady LPG Supply To Homes

Telangana Minister Uttam assures uninterrupted LPG supply to households.

Telangana’s Civil Supplies Minister, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, on Friday reaffirmed that the state has sufficient liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stocks to meet domestic demand and assured residents of uninterrupted supply in the coming weeks. The statement comes amid rising concerns over potential cooking gas shortages and reports of panic bookings among consumers.

The minister chaired a high‑level review meeting of the newly formed State Level Energy Supply Monitoring Committee at the state secretariat in Hyderabad, attended by senior officials including the Chief Secretary, Civil Supplies Commissioner, and representatives from major oil companies. The focus was on evaluating current LPG inventories and strengthening distribution mechanisms to ensure smooth delivery to households.

According to official data shared during the meeting, Telangana currently maintains around 10,611 tonnes of LPG in stock — the equivalent of nearly 6.97 lakh cylinders — supported by a network of roughly 810 authorised distributors across the state. The minister noted that this stock level is adequate to service domestic consumers without any expected interruption.

Despite these assurances, state authorities have expressed concern over panic booking, which they say can create artificial demand spikes and strain the distribution system. Uttam advised citizens to avoid hoarding cylinders and rely on official booking channels, warning that unnecessary bookings could disrupt equitable distribution.

In addition to monitoring stocks, the government has instructed district officials and police to conduct surprise inspections of LPG dealerships and take prompt legal action against any irregularities, including licence cancellations if violations are found. The directive aims to enhance compliance and prevent potential black‑market activities.

Officials also highlighted that while domestic LPG supply remains stable, broader demand pressures linked to seasonal factors and national consumption patterns underscore the importance of coordinated oversight. The state’s proactive approach reflects ongoing efforts to balance supply resilience with transparency and consumer confidence.
