Tehran Strikes Back: Pro-Monarchy Cells Crushed, Four US Spies Arrested

Iran dismantles royalist cells, arrests four alleged US spies; weapons seized across 26 provinces.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has dismantled pro-monarchy “royalist cells” and arrested four individuals accused of spying for the United States, the Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday. The operation was carried out nationwide, targeting networks allegedly involved in subversive activities against the state.

According to the ministry, security forces identified and detained 111 individuals across 26 provinces overnight. Authorities said a “significant” quantity of weapons was seized during the raids, underscoring the perceived threat posed by the arrested networks.

The ministry added that the four alleged US spies were apprehended in Hamedan and West Azerbaijan provinces. Officials claimed that these individuals were transmitting sensitive information about the location of security headquarters, equipment, and troop deployments to foreign intelligence services.

The arrests highlight Tehran’s ongoing efforts to counter domestic networks perceived as aligned with foreign powers. Iranian authorities have previously accused pro-monarchy and foreign-linked groups of attempting to destabilize internal security, often framing such actions as part of broader “enemy” influence campaigns.

Tasnim reported that the nationwide operation was coordinated to neutralize both royalist sympathizers and foreign intelligence operatives, reflecting the ministry’s priority of safeguarding state institutions and military assets. The ministry emphasized that the detained individuals would face legal proceedings under national security laws.

The developments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides frequently accusing each other of espionage and interference. Analysts say operations such as these serve both security and political purposes, reinforcing domestic narratives of vigilance against external threats.
