Suvendu Adhikari Sets Sights on Uttar Pradesh After TMC Rout: "Akhilesh Next"
Suvendu Adhikari targets Uttar Pradesh after Bengal victory and warns Akhilesh Yadav.
Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday signalled the Bharatiya Janata Party’s next political target after its sweeping victory in West Bengal, warning that Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav could be the next major challenger to face defeat in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Speaking after the election results, Adhikari said several opposition leaders had already been politically weakened, adding, “Akhilesh is next,” in a remark that underscored the BJP’s confidence following its strong performance in Bengal. His comments come as the party begins to shift focus toward upcoming state elections, particularly in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh.
Adhikari also launched a sharp attack on the All India Trinamool Congress, comparing it to the Aam Aadmi Party and accusing it of corruption, dynastic politics, and lack of ideological clarity. He claimed that the defeat of the Trinamool Congress marked the beginning of a broader political shift in the region.
Reflecting on the Bengal results, Adhikari said the mandate represented a decisive rejection of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. He alleged that her “political exile” had begun following electoral setbacks, including her defeat in key constituencies, which he described as a turning point in the state’s political trajectory.
The BJP leader further asserted that support for his party had come from a wide cross-section of communities, claiming that voters across religious and social groups had backed the BJP in constituencies like Nandigram. He also stated that a section of Left supporters had shifted allegiance, contributing to the party’s electoral gains.
Adhikari added that the BJP expects more leaders and workers from the Trinamool Congress to join its ranks in the coming days. With momentum from its Bengal victory, the party is now positioning itself for future electoral battles, with Uttar Pradesh emerging as the next major political focus.
