Students Encouraged to Focus on Learning, Not Scores, During Pariksha Pe Charcha
PM Modi encourages students to value learning and personal growth over exam scores in Pariksha Pe Charcha.
Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship annual initiative aimed at reshaping attitudes towards examinations, has been gaining prominence for encouraging “growth over grades” — a mindset that prioritises learning, resilience and personal development over mere test scores. The 2026 edition of the programme continued this narrative as millions of students, parents and teachers across India engaged with the Prime Minister on how to approach exams with confidence and calm.
Launched in 2018, Pariksha Pe Charcha started as a town‑hall style interaction between students and the Prime Minister but has since evolved into a nationwide “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement), with registrations for 2026 surpassing 4 crore, breaking previous records and widening its reach far beyond the original format. The initiative invites students from Classes 6‑12, as well as teachers and parents, to participate by submitting questions and receiving guidance on dealing with academic stress, preparation strategies and life skills.
Central to the spirit of “growth over grades” is the programme’s emphasis on exam season as a time for self‑reflection and learning rather than fear or anxiety. The Prime Minister has repeatedly urged students to build strong basics, embrace consistent study habits and balance preparation with overall well‑being — including adequate rest, nutrition and emotional support — to foster true academic and personal growth.

Parents, too, are a key audience in the dialogue, with Modi advising them not to exert undue pressure on children to achieve fixed timelines or high marks, noting that such stress can harm confidence and long‑term interest in learning. By urging supportive home environments and recognising individual developmental paces, the initiative seeks to reduce the societal fixation on marks as the sole indicator of success.
Another contemporary theme of PPC 2026 was the responsible use of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), which the Prime Minister positioned as a tool to enhance capabilities rather than replace effort. By demonstrating practical ways to use technology — such as AI for summarising biographies or suggesting tailored reading material — the programme linked academic skills with thoughtful digital engagement, reinforcing that growth in understanding and judgment matters more than rote performance.
Over the years, Pariksha Pe Charcha has reframed the national conversation around exams, turning what was once often a source of fear into a collective, positive experience of growth, reflection and resilience. Its nationwide reach and record participation suggest that many in India’s education community are embracing the ethos that education is more than grades — it is a journey toward lifelong learning and personal development.
