Sri Lankan Caught Red-Handed at Bengaluru Airport – Gave Ticket to Friend for London Escape
Sri Lankan man arrested at Bengaluru airport for letting another use his ticket and visa to fly to London.
In a startling case of airport fraud, a Sri Lankan national was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, after allegedly allowing another individual to travel to London using his own boarding pass and UK visa. The incident was uncovered when airport authorities became suspicious of irregular activity in the international departures area.
The accused, identified as Kandiah Rajagopal, was apprehended while attempting to make a fresh flight booking after the deception had already been detected by security personnel. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials on duty noticed unusual behavior near the international security hold zone and promptly alerted immigration authorities for further verification.
Subsequent checks revealed information from Virgin Atlantic indicating that a passenger had boarded flight VS‑347 to London using a boarding pass and visa in Rajagopal’s name. It was alleged that Rajagopal had completed immigration formalities and then handed over his documents to a “friend,” who then passed through security and boarded the aircraft in his stead.

Records from IndiGo Airlines further complicated the case, showing that another Sri Lankan national, Sharushan Kunasekaran, was scheduled to fly to Singapore on flight 6E‑1009 on January 18 but failed to board and could not be traced in the airport’s secure area. Investigators are looking into whether Kunasekaran was the individual who traveled to the UK using Rajagopal’s credentials.
Airport police and investigators are probing how the substitute traveler was able to bypass multiple security and identity checks, whether there were procedural lapses, and if a larger network could be involved. Authorities are also exploring the possibility that the fraud was an attempt to secure refugee status in the United Kingdom, although this line of inquiry remains under examination.
A formal case has been registered at the BIAL Police Station, and detailed investigations are ongoing to ascertain motive, accomplices, and any systemic vulnerabilities that may have been exploited in this audacious airport deception.
