Son of Norway’s Crown Princess Jailed Four Years in Rape Conviction Case
Son of Norway crown princess jailed in rape case.
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s crown princess, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of rape and several other offences, the Oslo District Court ruled on Monday morning. The verdict marks a major development in a high-profile case that has drawn significant public and media attention in Norway and abroad.
The court found Høiby guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend, Nora Haukland, who is the only victim publicly named in the proceedings. Along with the prison sentence, the court ordered him to pay compensation to Haukland as well as three other women involved in the case. Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad delivered the ruling after reviewing multiple charges presented during the trial.
Høiby, aged 29, had faced a total of 40 charges, including four counts of rape, assault allegations, breaches of restraining orders, and several drug and driving-related offences. One charge related to violating a restraining order was later dismissed. While he denied the most serious accusations, including rape, he admitted to certain lesser offences during the proceedings. He has the right to appeal the verdict.

According to court proceedings, Høiby attended hearings via video link from Ila Prison, with his defence team citing health-related reasons for his remote appearance. Prosecutors had sought a significantly harsher sentence of seven years and seven months, arguing the severity of the offences and the number of victims involved warranted a longer term of imprisonment.
The defence, meanwhile, had argued for acquittal on the rape charges and a maximum sentence of 18 months for the offences he admitted. The court ultimately rejected that position, finding sufficient evidence to support the rape convictions involving four women between 2018 and 2024. The prosecution stated that in each case, the victims were allegedly sleeping or heavily incapacitated at the time of the assaults.
The case has sparked widespread discussion in Norway, not only because of Høiby’s royal connection but also due to the broader legal and social implications surrounding sexual assault cases involving public figures. With the verdict now delivered, attention is expected to shift toward the appeals process and the potential impact on Norway’s royal household.
