Singapore High Commissioner’s UP Village Visit For Staff Wedding Wins Hearts Online

Singapore envoy Simon Wong attends a staff wedding in UP village, earning admiration for his humility and heartwarming gesture.

Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, has won widespread admiration after travelling to a remote village in Bulandshahr district to personally attend the wedding of one of his junior staff members. The diplomat, dressed in a traditional cream-colored kurta, joined the celebrations on November 23, 2025, posing with the newlyweds on the wedding stage, relishing local delicacies, and mingling with the family in a display of warmth that quickly went viral.

Wong shared photographs from the occasion on social media platform X, captioning them: “Attended the wedding ceremony of my staff in his village at Bulandshahr, UP. So much joy. Congratulations.” The images captured him beaming alongside the bride and groom, enjoying a plate of Indian food, and taking selfies with relatives against the backdrop of a simple village setting adorned with marigold garlands and fairy lights.

The gesture struck a chord with thousands online, who hailed it as a rare example of humility from a senior diplomat. Comments poured in praising Wong for crossing social and hierarchical barriers to celebrate with an employee far removed from the usual elite diplomatic circuit. “It’s rare these days to see people in high positions take the time to celebrate with their local staff,” one user wrote, while another called it a “beautiful gesture” that reflected his “down-to-earth upbringing.”

Many contrasted the act with the typical protocol-bound appearances of foreign envoys at high-profile events in metropolitan cities. The post rapidly garnered tens of thousands of likes and shares, with users describing the moment as a heartwarming symbol of people-to-people ties between India and Singapore. The staff member’s family, visibly overjoyed, later expressed gratitude to the High Commissioner for making their special day even more memorable.
