Sheikh Hasina Addresses 2024 Bangladesh Unrest And Election Controversy

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that the 2024 unrest in Bangladesh was not merely a student-led protest but a planned effort aimed at changing the country’s leadership outside the electoral process. Speaking during a virtual interaction with the media in Delhi, Hasina claimed that the protests were “meticulously designed” and involved an organised attempt to create a path to power beyond the ballot box.
Addressing the second anniversary of the 2024 unrest, Hasina said statements made by Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus supported her claims about the nature of the movement. She alleged that Yunus’ remarks describing the protests as a carefully planned movement indicated that the unrest was not a spontaneous expression of student concerns.
“There was no visible or responsible leadership, instructions were given invisibly,” Hasina alleged, claiming that the movement was organised and directed with a specific political objective. She further accused those behind the protests of attempting to gain power through means outside the democratic electoral system.
