Shehbaz Sharif Says US-Iran Peace Agreement Expected Within 24 Hours

Pakistan says US-Iran peace agreement is nearing finalization.

The United States and Iran could finalise a peace agreement aimed at ending the months-long conflict in the Middle East within the next 24 hours, according to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The announcement comes as diplomatic efforts intensify and both sides express growing optimism about the prospects of reaching a long-awaited settlement.

Pakistan, which has played a key mediating role in the negotiations, indicated that the final text of the agreement is nearly complete. In a post on X on Saturday, Sharif said the parties were closer than ever to securing a breakthrough and that preparations were already underway for the next stages of the process.

"We are closer to a peace deal than ever before," Sharif wrote, adding that finalisation of the agreement was expected shortly. He said Pakistan was preparing for the electronic signing of the accord immediately after its completion, with technical-level discussions scheduled to follow next week to address implementation-related matters.

The conflict between the United States and Iran has contributed to months of instability across the Middle East, raising concerns over regional security, global energy supplies and international trade. Despite an April 8 ceasefire agreement that reduced direct hostilities, negotiations on a comprehensive peace framework have faced repeated delays and setbacks.

US President Donald Trump has on several occasions suggested that a deal was imminent, only for disagreements between the parties to prolong the talks. Nevertheless, officials involved in the mediation process have continued to maintain that progress was being made behind the scenes toward a mutually acceptable settlement.

The latest optimism comes despite recent tensions and skirmishes reported in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important shipping route. If concluded, the agreement would represent a significant diplomatic achievement for all parties involved and could help ease regional tensions while providing greater stability to global markets affected by the conflict.
