Shah Criticises Rahul Gandhi, Labels Yatra ‘Ghuspetiya Bachao’

Amit Shah demands apology for Rahul’s yatra controversy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, demanding an apology for derogatory remarks allegedly made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar. Speaking in Guwahati, Shah accused Gandhi of stooping to the “lowest level” of politics, branding the yatra as a “Ghuspetiya Bachao Yatra” (Save Infiltrators Yatra) aimed at protecting Congress’s vote bank. “If Rahul Gandhi has any shame left, he should apologize. The nation watches him and his party in disgust,” Shah declared.

The controversy erupted after a purported video surfaced, showing an unidentified individual using a Hindi expletive against Modi from a dais in Darbhanga, where Gandhi, alongside Congress general secretary Priyanka Vadra and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, had participated in the yatra. Shah condemned the incident, asserting that such actions tarnish democratic values. “Elections are the soul of democracy. How can a nation be safe if infiltrators pollute the system?” he questioned, accusing Congress of prioritizing vote-bank politics over national security.

Shah emphasized Modi’s global stature, stating, “No amount of abuse can stop the lotus from blooming,” referring to the BJP’s enduring popularity. The home minister’s remarks followed sharp criticism from other BJP leaders, who also slammed Gandhi for the incident, amplifying the political row.

Beyond the controversy, Shah was in Assam for a two-day visit, where he inaugurated the Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati, calling it a historic milestone that reflects the northeast’s transformation into an ‘Astalakshmi’—a region of prosperity. He also virtually launched the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory-North East at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, built for Rs 45 crore, and initiated several development projects for the ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles, including housing, barracks, and hospitals.

In a ceremonial gesture, Shah offered prayers at a temple within the Raj Bhawan, performed ‘gau pujan,’ and planted a ‘Sindur’ tree, accompanied by Governor Laxmi Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. His visit underscored both development initiatives and a firm stance against political adversaries, reinforcing the BJP’s commitment to governance and national integrity.
